Zoeller® Recirculating Media Filters (RMF) provide proven, below-grade wastewater treatment for residential, commercial, and small community applications. Using aerobic organisms and gravel media, RMFs produce better-than-secondary quality effluent with minimal maintenance. Available in capacities from 450 to 36,000+ GPD, with customizable sizing to meet site-specific needs.
Zoeller® Recirculating Media Filters (RMF) are engineered for decentralized wastewater treatment systems where high-quality effluent is required. Designed for residential, commercial, and small community use, RMFs treat septic tank effluent through a below-grade filtration process using 3/8-inch pea gravel media. This media supports aerobic organisms that biologically digest nutrients as the fluid trickles through the pore spaces.
Effluent exits through an outlet pipe at the bottom of the filter, with 80% recirculated for additional treatment and 20% directed to final disposal—typically via drip irrigation or other soil absorption methods. The system is scalable, with individual units treating from 450 to over 36,000 gallons per day. Multiple filter beds can be installed for larger projects, and custom configurations are available to meet specific hydraulic and organic load requirements.
RMFs are known for their reliability, low maintenance, and ability to produce better-than-secondary quality effluent. They are ideal for sites with poor soil conditions or limited access to municipal sewer systems. With proper design, installation, and maintenance, RMFs offer a long-term, environmentally sound solution for wastewater treatment.
