The system works similarly to standard toilets — waste goes into the bowl and gets flushed out using powerful water pressure. Instead of relying on gravity, the upflush toilet system works by discharging water to the back of the toilet and into a pump with a macerator. The macerator grinds the waste, which moves through a pipe leading to a sewage system or septic tank.
